Diversity Profile - ASA Matthew Jannusch

I am inspired by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s continued and strong commitment to a diverse workforce.  I am an openly gay Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA), and I was recruited to be an ASA by the office at a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Job Fair sponsored by the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Center in 2001.

I’ve held many exciting and rewarding assignments in the office in the areas of Child Support Enforcement and Domestic Violence.  I am currently assigned to the Special Prosecutions Bureau, Financial Crimes Division. Specifically, I am assigned to the Mortgage Fraud Unit.  My office is located in one of the satellite Community Justice Centers strategically located throughout the county.  This allows me to have greater contact with individual members of the neighborhood, community organizations and local law enforcement.  One of the many goals of the Community Justice Centers is to provide services to underserved members of our community such as economically stressed individuals, seniors, gays and lesbians and various other minority groups by creating a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere.  The Community Justice Centers focus on the 3 P’s:  Prevention, Problem Solving and Prosecution.  This assignment allows me to educate the community through various speaking engagements and meetings on the issue of Mortgage Fraud; a hot topic during these economically difficult times.

I am an active member of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s LGBT Advisory Council and have attended several minority job fairs as a recruiter on behalf of the office.  I also represented the office at the National LGBT Bar Association Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair in Miami, Florida in August of 2010.  The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office is a welcoming environment; I have been able to grow professionally, as I have personally found the opportunities for growth here to be unlimited.
