~ 2011 Stradford Awards Ceremony ~

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez hosted an annual ceremony to commemorate
African- American History Month and to honor two Chicagoans known for their contributions to the
African-American community.  Also recognized during the ceremony were two local college students
for their award winning essays on the consequences of “sexting”.

The ceremony was held February 23rd at the Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center in Chicago.

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez with Stradford Award recipient, the Honorable Marcus R. Salone, Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court.  Judge Salone, a former Chicago Police officer, was appointed to the bench as an Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County in 1991.   He was appointed as the Supervising Judge of the Criminal Trial Division in 2008, where he served until his current appointment in March, 2011.
