State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez and members of the State’s Attorney’s Hispanic Advisory Council recently hosted the 2009 El Humanitario Awards Ceremony. The awards are given annually to members of the Hispanic Community for their outstanding contributions as lawyers and citizens.
This years honorees were Carmen Velasquez, Executive Director of the Alivio Medical Center which provides health care to 20,000 low income and uninsured Latinos, and Michael Hernandez, Esq, a partner and diversity officer at the law firm of Franczek Radelet.
Leticia Arceo of Mother McAuley High School and Abiel Martinez of Benito Juarez High School were awarded scholarships from State Farm Insurance and will be abel to work as interns in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Sondra Solarte, a traffic and general assignment reporter with Fox 32,served as mistress of ceremonies. The event was held at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen.
