FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 25, 2011 Cook County Prosecutors Secure 80-Year Sentence Larry Barlow, 50, was sentenced today for the murder of Antoinette Means, who was murdered June 25, 2006 at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in the 8300 block of South Chicago Avenue. According to prosecutors, Barlow entered the restaurant, pulled out a gun and announced a robbery. He jumped over the counter and took cash from the register. Though no employees or customers tried to stop him, Barlow fired a shot as he fled that struck Means. She died in the arms of her cousin who worked with her at the restaurant. The robbery netted the defendant approximately $130. Police reviewed footage taken from the restaurant’s security cameras that captured the robbery. Barlow, who lived near the restaurant, had a history of arrests in the area and was identified by several witnesses both inside and outside the store as the assailant. One of the defendant’s friends who saw Barlow shortly after the robbery told police he was wearing clothes similar to those in the video. When he was taken into custody, Barlow had a bandana on him similar to the one worn by the assailant. Barlow initially told police he was home with his parents at the time of the robbery but at trial his mother testified that was not true. Barlow was convicted on charges of Murder and Armed Robbery following a jury trial last June. Cook County Circuit Court Judge Charles Burns imposed the 80-year sentence today. Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez thanked the Chicago Police Department and Assistant State’s Attorneys Jennifer Gonzalez and Jim Papa for their work on the case.
