Convicted Felon Rceives 55-Year Prison Sentence for 2008 Sexual
Assault of 13-year-old Child

A convicted felon who was on parole for a previous murder has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in an abandoned building on the city’s south side in 2008, according to the office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.

James Beamon, 40, of Chicago, received the 55-year sentence today after being convicted in June of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and Aggravated Kidnapping charges.  The sentence was handed down by Cook County Judge William Lacy.

According to prosecutors, on July 20, 2008, the defendant lured the victim to an abandoned building near 2100 W. 52nd Street and told the victim that he could earn money by helping him clean the building.  The victim, who wanted money to help buy school supplies, agreed.  The defendant and the victim entered the abandoned building through a window.

Once inside the building the defendant ordered the victim to remove his shirt.  When the victim tried to leave, Beamon grabbed him and ordered him to remove his shorts.  The defendant then put his hands behind his back as if he had a gun and threatened to shoot the victim if he left.
The defendant told the victim to remove his underwear and then sexually assaulted the victim.

The victim then threw an object at the defendant and escaped from the building through a window, running naked into the street.  An off duty Cook County Deputy Sheriff saw the victim and came to his aid.  The sheriff located the defendant and detained him until the Chicago Police arrived and arrested him.

At the time of this incident Beamon was on parole for a 1990 murder and attempted murder conviction.   He had been released on parole in June of 2008 after serving 18 years in prison.

State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez thanked Assistant State’s Attorneys Patricia Shea of the Sex Crimes Unit and Marina Para of the Felony Trial Division for their handling of the case.
