FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: An Indiana man has been sentenced to 90 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the brutal attack and sexual assault of a woman while she was walking in a park on the city’s Southeast side in 2008, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez announced today. Jeffery Slowinski, 29 of Whiting, Indiana was sentenced October 6, 2009 to a 90-year term in state prison after being convicted following a bench trial in September by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Dennis Porter. Slowinski was found guilty of aggravated criminal sexual assault, attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, and aggravated battery charges. According to prosecutors, on the morning of March 25, 2008, near 11600 S. Avenue O, the victim was walking in Rowan Park around 5:30 a.m. when she was assaulted by Slowinksi, who struck her multiple times in the face, breaking her cheekbone and knocking her to the ground. Slowinski then dragged the 56-year-old victim to a wooded area where he strangled her, sexually assaulted her and left her for dead. Earlier this year, Slowinski was convicted in two separate cases of attempted criminal sexual assault, unlawful vehicular invasion and criminal damage to property in which he targeted victims coming from a local casino in Indiana. Judge Porter sentenced Slowinski to 9 years in prison in connection with those cases. State’s Attorney Alvarez thanked Assistant State’s Attorneys Annette Milleville and Erica Dillon of the Sex Crimes Division for their work on the cases.
