FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 19, 2010 A former administrative assistant with Chicago Archdiocese has been charged with using a work issued credit card to make over twelve thousand dollars personal expenditures according to the Office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. Sabrina Parker, 35, of Chicago was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of Theft over $10,000 punishable by up to fifteen years in prison. According to prosecutors, Parker worked as administrative assistant at the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago for five years before leaving in February of 2009. In 2006, the Archdiocese issued her a credit card to make work related purchases. In early 2009, her supervisor was reviewing expenses reports and came across a suspicious charge on Parker’s report. Suspicious, the supervisor asked Parker for a copy of her expense report and noticed that the purchase was not listed on the reports. The supervisor ordered copies of Parker’s card history and discovered that they differed greatly from the expense reports that she had submitted, showing numerous unauthorized purchases at Red Box, Blockbuster, Rent-A-Center, and Best Buy. A final review of the card determined that $12, 083.29 in unauthorized purchases had been made. Parker appeared in bond court this morning where her bail was set at $10,000 by Judge Maria Kuriakos-Ciesil. The case was continued to December 10. The public is reminded that criminal charging documents contain allegations that are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the state has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
