FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Two men have been charged by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in connection with a string of armed robberies in residential neighborhoods in the south suburbs over the past month during which at least two women were also sexually assaulted, State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez announced today. Lampton Turner, 18, of 14851 Ellis, Dolton, was charged today with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and eight counts of armed robbery. Marcus Harris, 19, of 842 E. 152nd Street, South Holland, was charged with three counts of armed robbery. The men were arrested on July 28 by South Holland police after they approached a South Holland man outside of his home and robbed the man at gun point. Following an investigation by the State’s Attorney’s Office and local police agencies, the men were also charged in similar robberies that occurred in Calumet City and Dolton. During the course of two of the robberies, Turner is also alleged to have sexually assaulted female victims. Turner and Harris are scheduled to appear for a bond hearing tomorrow (Friday) at the Sixth District courthouse in Markham at 9 am, when the State’s Attorney’s Office will present more details on the crimes. If convicted of the crimes they are charged with both defendants face up to 30 years in prison. State’s Attorney Alvarez thanked the South Holland, Dolton, and Calumet City police departments for their work and cooperation. She also thanked the Assistant State’s Attorneys from the 6th District in Markham for their handling of the cases.
