FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 8, 2010
Bond has been denied for a Chicago man implicated in the 2006 murder of a 17-year old member of the Jesse White Tumblers according to the Office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez. Eddie Fenton, 24, of 7724 S. Honore, was ordered held without bond on first degree murder charges in connection with the death of Willie Williams. “Senseless gun violence has tragically claimed the life of another young man who showed tremendous promise,” Alvarez said. “As prosecutors we will always work to ensure that those who perpetuate the cycle of violence are brought to justice and held accountable for their crimes.” In court prosecutors alleged that on April 1 2006, Williams and a group of friends attended a movie at the Ford City Mall, located at 7600 S. Cicero. During the film, several of the victim’s friends got in to an altercation with another group that included Eddie Fenton. When the film ended, the altercation continued and a fist fight broke out between the two groups in the theater’s parking lot. When the victim attempted to step in and break up the fight, the defendant pulled out a gun, and shot the victim. Chicago Police investigated the murder, and were able to locate numerous witnesses who were able to identify Fenton as the shooter. Further investigation also identified another witness who told police that the defendant had called him during the movie and told him to bring a gun and also gave him instructions as to where he should leave the weapon for him to find it. In December of 2009, the State’s Attorney’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Fenton and Chicago Police in cooperation with the U.S. Marshal’s Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force eventually located him in Chicago and took him in to custody. Today the defendant appeared for his bond hearing where Judge Israel Desierto denied bond and continued the case until April 28th. State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez thanked the U.S. Marshal’s Office, Chicago Police Investigators and the Assistant State’s Attorneys of the Cold Case Unit for their hard work on the case.
