FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 9, 2011 Charges In Theft Of Diamond Ring Wilfredo Gonzalez, 30, of Chicago has been charged with one count of Felony Theft and faces up to 3 years in prison if convicted. According to prosecutors, Gonzalez was performing remodeling work to the victim’s home in Cicero on August 5th when he asked to use the restroom. When he finished the homeowner noticed her diamond ring was missing and told her husband who confronted Gonzalez. Gonzalez denied taking the ring the two began to struggle. During the struggle Gonzalez took the ring from where he had hidden it on himself and swallowed it. The police were called and officers took Gonzalez to a nearby hospital where X-rays to the defendant’s stomach showed the ring. Cicero police were able to recover the ring. Gonzalez appeared at the Maywood Courthouse this morning where his bail was set at $10,000 by Judge James Shapiro. The case was continued to August 16th for a preliminary hearing.

A home repairman who swallowed a diamond ring in an attempt to hide it from the homeowners whose house he was working in is facing felony theft charges, according to the Office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
