FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: A Chicago man was sentenced today to 75 years in prison for the 2006 murder of a 10-year-old Englewood girl who was shot and killed by a stray bullet while celebrating at a family party for her birthday, according to the Office of Cook County State’s Anita Alvarez. Moses Phillips, 23, was sentenced by Cook County Judge Michael Brown after being convicted by a jury in March for the murder of Siretha White. According to prosecutors, on March 11, 2006, Phillips fired multiple shots from a vehicle at several men who were standing in front of a home at 2016 W. 70th Place. A stray bullet struck and killed Siretha White as she stood in the front room of the house. State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez thanked Assistant State’s Attorneys’ Charise Valente, supervising attorney from the Felony Trial Divison and Karen Kerbis of the Gangs Crimes Unit for their handling of the case.
