Cicero Police Officer Charged in Theft

A Cicero police officer was arrested today and charged with skimming thousands of dollars from the Cicero Police Department’s fraternal police organization, according to the Office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.

Gerald Bossolono, 46, was arrested by State’s Attorney’s Investigators after reporting for duty at the Cicero Police Department Wednesday morning.  Bossolono, who has been employed as an officer with Cicero since 1999, has been charged with felony theft following an investigation by the State’s Attorney’s Financial Crimes Unit.

According to investigators, Bossolono is alleged to have used his position as treasurer of the Cicero Police Benevolent Association to steal more than $70,000 in association funds. The Cicero Police Benevolent Association is a fraternal organization made up of Cicero police officers that raises funds through membership dues and various social functions.

Bossolono has been charged with one count of felony theft, a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in prison or probation.  He is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday morning at the Fourth District courthouse in Maywood where further details of the charges will be presented in court.
