Prosecutors Securer Natural Life Sentence in 2006 Fire

Cook County prosecutors have secured a natural life sentence against a woman charged in connection with a 2006 fire that caused the death of a mother and her 6-year-old son, according to the office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.

Sonia Lebron, 29, of Cicero, was convicted of two counts of murder and one count of aggravated arson after a jury trial in July.

According to prosecutors, Lebron was living with her boyfriend at a Cicero residence that his mother was renting.  Lebron had an ongoing dispute with her boyfriend’s mother and, in the early morning hours of October 4, 2006, used gasoline to set several fires within the residence.  One of the fires, set in the doorway of the bedroom the victims were sleeping in, prohibited them from escaping the fire.  No one else was injured in the fire.

Raquel Perez, 40, and her son, Cesar Camacho, 6, died in the fire.

Lebron was sentenced by Cook County Judge Thomas Tucker today to natural life  in prison.

State’s Attorney Alvarez thanked Assistant State’s Attorneys Mary Lacy and Dave Sabatini for their work on this case.
