FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: A Chicago woman has been sentenced to four years in prison for using an electronic skimmer to steal credit card numbers from customers of a west suburban fast food restaurant. Nicole Dixon, 26, of 1639 S. California Avenue, pled guilty to three counts of identity theft today before Judge Carol Kipperman at the Maywood Courthouse. Prosecutors charged that from December of 2006 to February of 2007, Dixon used an electronic skimming device to collect credit card information from drive-though customers of a McDonalds in Broadview, IL. The stolen information was then used to make over $5,500 in fraudulent purchases. A subsequent investigation identified Dixon as being the cashier for all six of the victims. When confronted with the information she admitting stealing the customers information. As a precaution Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez urges consumers not to let their credit cards out of sight when making purchases when possible. # # #
