FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: “The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office is extremely grateful to all of the law enforcement agencies who participated in the efforts to capture fugitive Robert Maday, and particularly those West Chicago officers who were involved in his apprehension this afternoon. “I would personally like to thank the U.S. Marshall’s Office, the F.B.I., the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the North Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, and the police departments of Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, West Chicago, Bloomingdale and Hoffman Estates. “The escape of Maday is an extremely serious breach of security and the State’s Attorney’s Office has begun an internal investigation to determine the facts as to how this prisoner was able to escape from custody. “A preliminary review of the facts has determined that there were violations of office policies that govern the transport of prisoners. As a result, the two investigators involved in this incident have been relieved of their police powers and suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. “It is important to note that State’s Attorney’s Investigators transport an average of 300 prisoners each year, and prior to this incident we have not had one single escape from custody. However, in order to prevent an incident such as this from occurring in the future, I have ordered a comprehensive review of policies and procedures to determine if there are any additional changes required.”
