Alvarez Announces New Management Appointments

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez today announced top management appointments, including naming a veteran criminal and sex crimes prosecutor to the position of First Assistant State’s Attorney.

Alvarez has named Shauna Boliker First Assistant State’s Attorney.  Much like Alvarez, Boliker is a career Cook County prosecutor who has steadily worked her way up through the ranks of the office, handling hundreds of felony criminal cases along the way.  Prior to her appointment as First Assistant, Boliker served as Chief of the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau, the largest criminal trial division in the State’s Attorney’s Office.

“The heart and soul of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office will always be our service in seeking justice for the victims of violent crime and no one understands that call to service as well as Shauna Boliker,” Alvarez said.   “Shauna will not only bring a wealth of experience to this role, she will also bring great insight and compassion.”

A native of Gary, Ind., Boliker has held numerous supervisory positions within the office including Chief of the Sex Crimes Division, where she supervised the prosecution of all sexual assault cases that included child victims, child pornography, internet solicitation and sexual abuse by clergy.  Her responsibilities also included supervision of the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center which is an all inclusive, multi-disciplinary unit devoted to the investigation of child sexual abuse cases.

In the position of First Assistant, Boliker will be responsible for overall day-to-day operations of the State’s Attorney’s Office, focusing on policy, budget and management efficiencies. She replaces Adrienne Mebane who retired from the State’s Attorney’s Office last month after more than twenty years of service.

Replacing Boliker as Chief of the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau will be Fabio Valentini, another veteran prosecutor who most recently served as Supervisor of the Felony Review Unit, the arm of the State’s Attorney’s Office that reviews and approves all felony cases brought by police agencies for criminal charges.

Valentini joined the State’s Attorney’s Office in 1991 and has served as a supervisor for the last seven years.
