FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 28, 2011 Schiller Park Man Charged in Forest Preserve Attack Brian Lavergne, 41, has been charged with one count of robbery and faces up to 7 years in prison if convicted. According to prosecutors, the victims, who are husband and wife, were walking through the Schiller Woods Forest Preserve near Irving Park Road and Cumberland when Lavergne approached them and demanded money. When they told him they didn’t have any he struck the husband twice in the face. The defendant then grabbed the wife and struck her in the face and took her shoes as he fled the scene. The husband chased Lavergne through the woods and he was eventually apprehended by police at a gas station in the area. Lavergne appeared in court this morning in Maywood where his bond was set at $25,000 by Judge William Wise. His case was continued to August 1 for a preliminary hearing. The public is reminded that charging documents contain allegations that are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is entitled to fair trial at which the state has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
