Devine to Present 2007 Arson Prevention Awards
Cook County State’s Attorney Richard A. Devine, with officials from counties across Illinois, will present the 2007 Arson Prevention Awards at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2007. The ceremony will take place in the 12th Floor Library of the Criminal Courts Building at 2650 South California Avenue in Chicago.
The Awards, which are given by the Illinois Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention, recognize citizens and officials whose cooperation and bravery led to the conviction of dangerous criminals.
“Arson is a crime that not only claims the lives of many innocent people, it also robs victims of their property,” said Devine. “Thanks to the efforts of these vigilant citizens and professionals, we can ensure that individuals are held accountable for their destructive crimes.”
At this year’s ceremony, eight citizens from Cook, DuPage, Clark, and Bureau Counties will receive recognition and monetary awards for their assistance in providing information on cases that have led to successful prosecutions and suppressions of arsons in Illinois. Additionally, 15 officials, including six members of the Chicago Police Department and six members of the Chicago Fire Department will be recognized.
The Illinois Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention was created to encourage citizen cooperation with state and local authorities in the investigation and prosecution of arsonists. To report a suspected arson, individuals are encouraged to call the I.A.C.A.P at 1-800-252-2947 or their local law enforcement agency.
