Devine Helps Protect Local Merchants from Financial Crimes

Cook County State’s Attorney Richard A. Devine invites local merchants to participate in a seminar on how to protect their businesses from financial crimes on Tuesday, October 10, at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., in Chicago.

The seminar will provide information on how local merchants can prevent such financial crimes as identity theft and credit card fraud.  Merchants who fall prey to bad checks can learn how to recoup funds through the State’s Attorney’s Bad Check Restitution program.  To date, the program has recovered over $1.5 million to businesses in Cook County.

“The harm that bad checks have on local businesses is of great concern to all of us,” Devine said. “Millions of dollars are lost every year by merchants, but we all pay.  Higher consumer costs are passed on to offset losses and taxes are increased to cover the costs of law enforcement and prosecution.”

If you are interested in attending, please call (866) 581-7288 or email: BBabich@checkprogram.com. Reservations must be received by October 2.  The seminar will run from 7:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

For more information regarding the State’s Attorney’s Bad Check Program, please call (312) 603-8700.
