Cook County State's Attorney's Office Hosts Free Business Seminar

State’s Attorney Richard A. Devine and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Bad Check Restitution Program is hosting a financial crimes seminar for local businesses and nonprofit organizations on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at Wilbur Wright College, 4300 N. Narragansett, Chicago, Illinois.  There will be no charge to attend.

Speakers from the FBI, Secret Service, Chicago Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit,
MasterCard, Illinois Secretary of State Police, and the Federal Trade Commission will speak on
various topics, which will help businesses and organizations protect themselves from financial
fraud and deceptive practices.  Merchants can also learn how to recoup funds through the State’s Attorney’s Bad Check Restitution program.  To date, the program has recovered over $2 million to businesses in Cook County. 

“Local economy is affected when merchants are the victims of bad checks and financial crimes,”
said Devine.  “I am pleased that through the Bad Check Program, we are able to provide additional resources to offset merchant losses and stabilize consumer costs.”

Along with the State’s Attorney’s Office, the seminar is co-sponsored by local Chambers
of Commerce: Albany Park Chamber, Belmont-Central Chamber, Gladstone Park Chamber,
Jefferson Park Chamber, Lincoln Bend Chamber, North Pulaski-Armitage Chamber and
the Portage Park Chamber.

The program will run from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There is no fee for the program, but reservations
