State's Attorney Presents 2005 El Humanitario Award

Cook County State's Attorney Richard A. Devine will present the 13th annual El Humanitario Award Thursday night to Javier Zamora, an attorney at Hinshaw and Culbertson since 1998, in recognition of his contributions to the Hispanic community.

The ceremony, which will be hosted by NBC 5's Anita Padilla, begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at the Chicago Athletic Association, 12 S. Michigan Ave.

As an officer in the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, Mr. Zamora has been instrumental in organizing the participation and sponsorship of Hinshaw and Culbertson in Hispanic community events. His professional association memberships include the Hispanic National Bar Association, American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. He has also volunteered as a guest speaker for minority and low-income high school student programs promoting college attendance.
Mr. Zamora received his law degree from DePaul University College of Law. As an active member in the U.S. Army Reserve, he holds the rank of Captain and recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.

Devine will also honor Sandra Herrera and Christopher Ocasio, winners of this year's student essay contest. The State's Attorney will also recognize the recipients of this year's Hispanic Bar Association Law Students' Recognition Award, Marilyn Salas and Jerome Maes.

The El Humanitario Awards celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and honor members of the Hispanic community who deserve special recognition for their contributions as lawyers and outstanding citizens.
