State's Attorney Presents 2005 El Humanitario Award
Cook County State's Attorney Richard
A. Devine will present the 13th annual El Humanitario
Award Thursday night to Javier Zamora, an attorney
at Hinshaw and Culbertson since 1998, in recognition
of his contributions to the Hispanic community.
The ceremony, which will be hosted by NBC 5's Anita
Padilla, begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and
will be held at the Chicago Athletic Association,
12 S. Michigan Ave.
As an officer in the Hispanic Lawyers
Association of Illinois, Mr. Zamora has been instrumental
in organizing the participation and sponsorship of
Hinshaw and Culbertson in Hispanic community events.
His professional association memberships include the
Hispanic National Bar Association, American Bar Association,
Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar
Association. He has also volunteered as a guest speaker
for minority and low-income high school student programs
promoting college attendance.
Mr. Zamora received his law degree from DePaul University
College of Law. As an active member in the U.S. Army
Reserve, he holds the rank of Captain and recently
returned from a tour of duty in Iraq.
Devine will also honor Sandra Herrera
and Christopher Ocasio, winners of this year's student
essay contest. The State's Attorney will also recognize
the recipients of this year's Hispanic Bar Association
Law Students' Recognition Award, Marilyn Salas and
Jerome Maes.
The El Humanitario Awards celebrate
Hispanic Heritage Month and honor members of the Hispanic
community who deserve special recognition for their
contributions as lawyers and outstanding citizens.
