Crete Man Banned from Operating Roofing Company
Scott Beutler, owner of Prairie State
Roofing in Crete was permanently banned from operating
his
roofing business and ordered to pay $3,000 restitution
after he failed to complete work and refund
money to an elderly victim.
Judge Mary Anne Mason issued the final
judgment against Beutler earlier this month after
he did not appear in court in response to the complaint
filed by the Cook County State's Attorney's Consumer
Fraud Division in November 2005, charging him with
violating the Illinois Home Repair and
Remodeling Act, the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and
the Illinois Roofing Industry Licensing Act.
"Taking advantage of senior citizens
is reprehensible," said Cook County State's Attorney
Richard A. Devine. "We cannot tolerate businesses
which target the weakest and most vulnerable members
of our society."
The judgment was ordered after prosecutors
showed how Beutler failed to perform contracted work,
refused to refund consumer monies, and operated his
business without a license. In addition to the restitution,
Beutler is ordered to pay a $3,000 civil penalty.
