Man Posing as Attorney Ordered to Pay Over $50,000 to Immigrants in Settlement

Cook County State's Attorney Richard Devine resolved an immigration suit today against John W. Wozniak d//b/a W. Consulting, Inc., Advocate Group for Immigrants. The lawsuit, filed in
September 2005, alleged that Wozniak, who operates an office at 5920 W. Dempster, Suite 200,
Morton Grove, caused Polish and Eastern European immigrants to retain his services by pretending
to be an attorney and promising to obtain work permits, Social Security cards, and green cards for them.

Cook County Judge Bernetta Bush approved the settlement agreement, which permanently bans
Wozniak, a non-attorney, from practicing law without a license and from pretending to be an attorney
or someone who can give legal advice. Pursuant to the settlement agreement, Wozniak paid $51,200
in restitution to 19 consumers who filed complaints with the State's Attorney's Consumer
Fraud Division.

As a result of the settlement, Wozniak is now required to provide customers with written contracts,
and must post signs in his office which notify consumers that he is not a licensed attorney, cannot
charge legal fees, and may only charge $5 per 15 minutes. Wozniak's contracts must also list the name,
address, and telephone number of any attorney he refers customers to for legal representation or advice
concerning their immigration matter. Further, Wozniak is barred from using the terms advocate, consultant, INS agent, or any other title that could cause confusion about his professional skills concerning immigration matters.

In keeping with Illinois regulation, Wozniak can provide clerical immigration assistance such as transcribing responses to government agency forms, securing and translating documents, and
notarizing signatures.

"Illinois law protects consumers who rely on others for immigration assistance," said Devine.
"Immigration fraud violates Illinois law and will be vigorously prosecuted".
