2006 Unity Month Celebration
"Coming Together As One"

September 26, 2006

Cook County State’s Attorney Richard A. Devine, along with members of the State’s Attorney’s Office African-American; Asian Pacific American; Hispanic; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered; and Hate Crimes Advisory Councils, recognized Unity Month, a celebration of ethnic and cultural diversity with a Reception and Awards Ceremony.

This year’s theme “Coming Together as One”,  honored individuals and organizations that illustrate the strength of our community when different cultures are respected and empowered.

Community Empowerment Awards were given to: Black on Black Love, My Sister’s Keeper Program; Asian Health Coalition of Illinois; State Representative Larry McKeon; Sheri Mecklenburg, General Counsel to Police Superintendent Phil Cline and Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.  A Special Recognition Award was given to Sergeant Anthony Scalise of the Chicago Police Department.

State Farm Insurance sponsored the ceremony, hosted by CBS/TV Channel 2 Reporter Joanie Lum at the picturesque John G. Shedd Aquarium.
