Kim Foxx is an American politician and Cook County State’s Attorney. Kim took office in December 1st, 2017 and has championed criminal justice reform. Her dream of a fairer, more transparent, trust worthy and forward thinking State’s office has helped her overturn 80 cases of wrongly convicted inmates. Kim has prioritized county resources towards more higher level offenses in an effort to maximize resoureces. She is an advocate for legalization of cannabis in Illinois. This has led her to help those in need of conviction relief from cannabis related charges. Kim Foxx was the first State’s Attorney to make felony level data available to the public in effort to show transparency in the State’s Attorney Office.

Gun Violence

Foxx created a program called the Gun Crimes Strategies Unit (GCSU), which placed specially trained prosecutors directly in police districts. In 2019, analysis by the  University of Chicago Crime Lab  found that gun violence decreased in the five districts with the GCSU program, and that charges for habitual gun offenders increased in these districts.

Kim Foxx served as an Assistant State’s Attorney  for 12 years. Kim worked as an attorney helping children navigate the welfare system.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Southern Illinois University (SIU), and a J.D. degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law

Foxx is originally from Chicago. She is currently running for re-election in Cook County. Her running mates in the Democratic Party primary: Bob Fioretti, Bill Conway,and Donna More. On March 17, 2020 she won the Democratic primary and will face Pat O’Brian in the general election on November 3rd, 2020.
