Alexander C. Van Hook
United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana welcomes newly appointed Alexander C. Van Hook as Acting United States Attorney. Alexander C. Van Hook will take over former U.S. Attorney David C. Joseph, upon Attorney General William P. Barr’s nomination and appointment. United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook joined the office on August 3, 2020.

Education and Academic Honors
A 1993 graduate of the Centenary College of Louisiana, U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook subsequently received his Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Herbert Law Center at the Louisiana State University in 1997. Alexander C. Van Hook earned several honors and awards in this capacity, including The Order of the Coif, becoming a member of the Louisiana Law Review, and being a part of the Chancellor’s List.
Legal Career
Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook began his legal career as a Law Clerk under the Honorable Tom Stagg of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. Later on, he also clerked under Chief Judge Henry A. Politz of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
In 1999, Alexander C. Van Hook joined the United States Attorney’s Office as an Assistant United States Attorney. He prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases, with a focus on money laundering, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crimes. He has worked as a prosecutor in the Office for about seven-year, until 2006. U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook also once led the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, intending to combat illegal drugs and other criminal activity and violence associated with the drug trade. He also served as the Deputy Criminal Chief for three years and was responsible for overseeing the criminal investigative agency.
Prior to becoming the United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, Alexander Van Hook was First Assistant United States Attorney. He supervised both the Criminal and Civil Divisions of the U.S. Attorney’s Office. At this point, Alexander Van Hook had served for the past ten years in the Office.
Professional Awards
With his exemplary service, United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook has been recognized and awarded the Executive Office of the United States Attorney’s Director’s Award for Superior Performance in 2002. Alexander Van Hook was acknowledged for his work in the prosecution of a case involving the murder of a United States national’s wife in Haiti and was again awarded the Director’s Award in 2010, for the successful prosecution of two state court judges over public corruption charges
Office Jurisdiction
As interim United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, Alexander C. Van Hook oversees the district comprising of 42 out of the 64 parishes of the state, which geographically encompasses two-thirds of the State of Louisiana. Furthermore, his office is responsible for both criminal and civil litigations involving the United States, representing over 200 federal agencies in civil litigations along with other United States Attorney’s Office. His office is also in charge of federal crimes involving public corruption, firearms, financial fraud, and narcotics, among others. Additionally, the office manages civil cases involving the United States and recovers debts owed to the United States.
