Bart M. Davis states attorney for the district of Idaho

Bart M. Davis is the U.S. Attorney for the District of Idaho for the United States Department of Justice. He is an American lawyer and politician.

Attorney Davis’s nomination was announced by the U.S. President, Donald Trump in June 2017. The United States Senate approved his nomination through a unanimous voice vote on September 7, 2017. He got the confirmation for the post by the Senate on September 14, 2017, through a voice vote. He swore as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the District of Idaho on September 21, 2017. Wendy J. Olson earlier served the post.

 

Law Career

He is an active member of the Native American Issues Subcommittee and Border and Immigration Subcommittee.

He has been the past chairman of The Council of State Governments (CSG).  Davis has been the commissioner representative from Idaho in the ULC, or the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, since 2001. In the year 1990 for the Davis v. the United States case in the U.S. Supreme Court, Bart Davis co-counselled with Rex Lee.

 

Private Practice

Attorney Davis started his law practice from Idaho Falls after completing his graduation. His practices included mainly business, bankruptcy, commercial, construction, and real estate law.

During his private practice in his legal career, Bart has practiced at the Idaho Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for District of Arizona and the District of Idaho. Attorney Davis has practicing experience before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

 

Political Career Involvements

U.S. Attorney Bart Davis was a part of The Republican Party. During his tenure in the Idaho Senate, Davis was the state senate majority leader from the year 2002 to 2017. He was in his eight-term of his service on this post, before taking over the position as U.S. attorney. He was the Majority Caucus Chair for two years between 2000 to 2002.

U.S. Attorney Davis was the Member of the Idaho Senate from District 33 from December 1, 2002, to September 21, 2017. From December 1, 1998, to December 1, 2002, Bart Davis was a Member of the Idaho Senate from District 29. He was also a part of the Education Committee and the Commerce and Human Resources Committee.

 

Other Associations

Bart Davis is also a member of the Idaho Falls Rotary Club since the year 1983. He has been a Board Member in the Idaho Law Review Advisory Board, College of Law, University of Idaho, from 2006 to 2007. Since 1998 he has been a member of the Idaho Falls Education Advisory Council. From 2000 to 2004, he was a Board Member in Eastern Idaho Special Services Agency.

As an active ISB member, Atty Davis has broad experience with not only the Idaho Supreme Court but also the state bar and the federal bar. He has also served the Judicial Independence and Integrity Committee.

Bart Davis was Lawyer Representative during six years of his service for the federal courts. He represented the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. He also was the representative for the Conference Executive Committee, Chapter 13 Plan Subcommittee, and Long-Range Planning Committee. From 1998 to 2001, he was the Lawyer representative for the Bankruptcy Court Rules.

 

Primary Duties

As the U.S. Attorney, Bart McKay Davis is serving his four-year term for the district that has 26 Assistant United States Attorneys and 31 staff members. He serves as the principal litigator for the District of Idaho, which has its main office located in Boise. He is also part of the Attorney General Advisory Council subcommittees. He is an active member of the Marijuana Working Group.

The office looks after the prosecution of federal felonies like terrorism, robberies, public corruption, homicides, narcotics, and fraud in the district. Bart Davis is the chief federal law enforcement officer and defends the civil cases and the tax affairs of the Government. The branch offices are located in Pocatello and Coeur d’Alene.

The Coeur d’Alene office extends from Salmon River to the Canadian border. The office handles ten northern counties of Idaho, some of the major cities are Coeur d’Alene, Moscow, and the Kootenai. The Pocatello branch stretches from the Magic Valley’s eastern end to the Wyoming and Montana borders. It includes 18 eastern counties in Idaho. Some of the major cities under the Pocatello branch are Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Burley.

 

Education

Bart M. Davis joined Brigham Young University for his undergraduate degree. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in English in the year 1978. Mr. Davis earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law in the year 1980.
