Billy J. Williams is the current U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oregon. Atty Williams has been with the Department of Justice for a long time. He worked under President Donald Trump as well as Barack Obama as a Federal law enforcement officer. He took charge of the Attorney office from Amanda Marshall and became a trusted name in a short period.
Williams got appointed as the Acting U.S. Attorney by Chief District Judge Michael W. Mosman in April 2015. When President Donald Trump assumed office, Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley supported Williams to retain the office.
The POTUS announced his reappointment in November 2017 due to his unmatched integrity and commitment. The Senate approved this nomination with a big majority. As a result, the current Attorney got another four-year term as the Federal government representative.

Professional Career
Williams joined the United States Attorney Office in 2009. During this time, he worked in different positions. His professional career involved working as Chief of the Criminal Division, Chief of the Violent Crime Unit, First Assistant U.S. Attorney, and Assistant Attorney for Indian Country and Tribal Liaison.
Billy Williams also has experience of leading the Career Criminal Unit of Multnomah County as a Senior Deputy District Attorney. While working as a state prosecutor, he proactively prosecuted violent crime cases. This included child sex offenses, murder, drug trafficking, homicide, and mass shootings.
Apart from these leadership roles, he has also been a member of many Advisory Subcommittees to the Attorney General. He is associated with the Implicit Bias Steering Committee and Ninth Circuit Fairness Committee. These days, he is serving as the chairperson of the Attorney Generals Marijuana Working Group. His responsibilities include monitoring Subcommittees focused on border and immigration rules, civil rights, Native American issues, and domestic violence.
Achievements
He is a very knowledgeable person and well aware of the political and socio-economic situation of the state. In 2017, he published an insightful article in The Oregonian newspaper. In this eye-opening opinion piece, he highlighted the impacts of Oregon’s sanctuary status on public safety. He also attended a federal law enforcement summit in 2018, where he shared the dangers of marijuana production on society.
Since the Oregon Medical Marijuana Act permitted citizens to grow marijuana for medical purposes, it is a challenge to keep its cultivation under control. The Attorney’s Office aims to protect people from its hazards with the right set of rules.
Billy J. Williams is a reputable U.S. Attorney. He considers it a privilege to serve the citizens of Oregon State. He has been working with The Justice Department since 2000. Over the years, he earned respect through continuous efforts and honesty.
Educational Background
Williams was born in Toppenish, a small city in Washington State. He received early education from local educational institutes. To pursue higher education, he later moved to Pullman and Salem cities. He enrolled in the Washington State University for B.A. program. The University awarded him the degree in 1981. Later on, he obtained his Juris Doctor from the Willamette University College of Law in 1989.
