Bobby L. Christine
Bobby L. Christine is the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia for the United States Department of Justice. He is an American attorney and judge. He is a veteran of the United States Armed Forces.
Bobby’s nomination was announced by the U.S. President, Donald Trump on September 11, 2017. The United States Senate confirmed Bobby’s nomination through a voice vote, on November 15, 2017. He swore as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the Southern District of Georgia on November 22, 2017. The post was served by Edward J. Tarver earlier.
As the U.S. Attorney, Bobby Lee Christine is serving his four-year term for the district that includes 43 counties within it. The district is divided into six divisions. Some of the major counties under the Augusta division are Columbia, Lincoln, Richmond, Louisville, and Washington. The Savannah division includes Bryan, Liberty, Savannah, and Springfield.

Appointment for the Northern District of Georgia
Bobby L. Christine has been appointed as the Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia on January 5, 2021. Although he is currently holding the position of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, he will remain in the position while assuming the new and additional role for the Northern District of Georgia. Bobby Christine is taking over in the Office following the resignation of former U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak, which was effective on January 4, 2021.
Office Jurisdiction for Northern District of Georgia
Now the Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer for the Northern District of Georgia, U.S. Attorney Bobby L. Christine currently oversees the 90 attorneys and over 200 employees of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, on top of handling the operations in the Southern District. Besides, he serves the six million citizens of the Northern District. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is in charge of federal crimes involving public corruption, firearms, financial fraud, and narcotics. Moreover, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia also extends their work well beyond the district as most of the cases in the Office necessitates national or international coordination. The office is also responsible for managing civil cases involving the United States and recovering debts owed to the United States.
Law Career
Before becoming the United States Attorney of Southern District of Georgia, he was serving as a Magistrate Court Judge in Columbia County. He was appointed there in the year 2005, and he served his post till November 2017. During this period, he held the position of Chief Magistrate from the year 2009 to 2012.
Primary Duties
He serves as the principal litigator for the Southern District of Georgia, which has unstaffed offices in Brunswick, Waycross, Dublin, and Statesboro. Bobby oversees the prosecution of federal felonies like terrorism, public corruption, drug trafficking, and fraud in the district. He is the chief federal law enforcement officer and defends the civil cases and the tax affairs of the Government.
Private Practice
During his private practice, his work focused mainly on litigations, which were domestic, probate, personal damage, and unlawful. Before taking over the post of U.S. Attorney of Southern District of Georgia, he has worked as a partner at the law firm Christine and Evans LLC from the year 2005 to 2017.
Association with USAO
Bobby has a long-term association with the United States Attorney Office. He served as the Assistant United States District Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in Augusta, Georgia, for nearly ten years. At this post, he oversaw the prosecution of several felonies like vehement crimes and complex thefts.
Association with Military
Bobby had joined the Army National Guard when he was 17 in the year 1986. He is currently at the rank of a Colonel. He attained the officer rank at the age of 19. Bobby is part of the United States Army Reserve, Georgia National Guard, which is the largest division of Georgia’s state government. Bobby has been a combat engineer platoon leader. He has also served as a Brigade Judge Advocate and State Judge Advocate.
In the year 2012, Governor Nathan Deal appointed him as State Judge Advocate. At present, he is serving as SJA and senior lawyer, Georgia National Guard.
Education
Bobby L. Christine joined the Georgia Military College from where he earned his associate degree. He joined the University of Georgia for his undergraduate degree. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from there. Bobby earned his Juris Doctor from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, Birmingham.
Awards
He has received the Bronze Star Medal for his commendable contribution during the Iraq war as a Judge Advocate General and 265th Engineer Group’s combat engineer. He was also honored with the Meritorious Service Medal.
Booby has also received the U.S. Army Parachutist Badge of the United States Armed Forces. He has been awarded the military award, Legion of Merit for his meritorious conduct during his service, and to appreciate his contributions. He was named as Army Career Judge Advocate of the Year in the year 2016.
