United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, Brandon Joseph Fremin, is the Chief Federal Law Enforcement Official of the nine parishes that constitutes the Middle District of Louisiana. He currently oversees a staff of approximately 60 attorneys and support personnel.

Education
U.S. Attorney Brandon J. Fremin studied at Louisiana State University from August to December, in the year 1992. He then transferred to Southeastern Louisiana University in the summer of 1993. Subsequently, He earned his degree in Bachelor of Arts, and Criminal Justice in the winter of 1998, graduating as cum laude. Returning to Louisiana State University at the Paul M. Herbert Law Center, Atty Fremin earned a degree in Bachelor of Civil Law, and his Juris Doctor in 2003.
Military Service and Draft Status
After serving eight years in the United States Marine Corps from 1994 to 2002, Brandon J. Fremin received an Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant, Non-Commissioned Officer. He was then considered a veteran of Baton Rouge, beginning with his service as a manager at Jack Mackerel’s Dockside Café from 1998 to 1999.
Legal Career
His career in law began in the Office of the East Baton Rouge District Attorney, 19th Judicial District, as a Criminal Investigator from 1999 to 2000. He then served for four months as a Law Clerk at the deGravelles, Palmintier, Holthaus and Fruge Attorneys at Law in 2001. A year later, Brandon J. Fremin became an Extern at the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, Office of Disciplinary Counsel, from January to May, in 2002. In the same year, he became a Law Clerk at the Law Office of Antonio M. “Tony” Clayton from May to August and then transferred to the Baton Rouge City Court, serving as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Alex Wall from August 2002 to June 2003.
Two months later, in August 2003, Attorney Fremin served in the Office of the East Baton Rouge District Attorney, 19th Judicial District, as an Assistant District Attorney for nine years, until September 2012. His work revolved around managing a daily docket and conducting grand jury investigations. Brandon J. Fremin also worked as sole counsel, lead counsel, and co-counsel on several pre-trial hearings, arraignments, motions hearings, status conferences, competency hearings, sentencing hearings, and trials.
Brandon Fremin then became an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney – Middle District of Louisiana from September 2012 to October 2013, and primarily prosecuted matters involving drug trafficking, firearms possession, and federal immigration laws. Atty Fremin, later on, came back to the Office of the East Baton Rouge District Attorney, 19th Judicial District, and served there as a Section Chief, Assistant District Attorney for three years – from 2013 to 2016. As the Section Chief, he was responsible for managing, mentoring, training, and evaluating a section of prosecutors and staff.
Finally, before confirmed to be the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, Mr. Fremin served as the Director of the Criminal Division in the Louisiana Department of Justice, Office of the Louisiana Attorney General in 2016, managing approximately 105 personnel. Furthermore, he oversees criminal trial, appellate litigation, and the management of a federally mandated Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
The Most Significant Litigated Matters
Brandon Fremin’s entire professional career revolved around representing the State of Louisiana and the United States in all aspects of the prosecution of criminal matters. His most significant litigated matters predominantly involved first-degree or second-degree murders resulting in a penalty of 30 years to life imprisonment at hard labor. Brandon J. Fremin also worked on several robberies, illegal firearm possession, rape, manslaughter, and drug trafficking.
Honors and Awards
Several honors and awards were given to Brandon Fremin for his outstanding service and achievements. These include three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in the years 1997, 1999, and 2000, a Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal awarded in 1997, and a National Defense Service Medal awarded in 1995. Outside the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Fremin also received academic honors in the Southeastern Louisiana University for being on the Dean’s List for Academic Achievement from 1996 to 1998. His exceptional work in the Paul M. Herbert Law Center at Louisiana State University was also acknowledged. U.S. Attorney Fremin was a Student Member of the Wex Malone Inn of Court from 2002 to 2003 and was a Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors Scholarship recipient from 2001 to 2003.
Bar and Court Admissions
Since 2003, Mr. Fremin has been an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association. Additionally, he is an active member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association since 2005. Mr. Fremin was also admitted to practice in the Federal District Court of the Middle District of Louisiana since 2012.
Teachings and Memberships
Beyond his legal career, Atty Fremin taught several courses at the annual Louisiana Justices of the Peace and Constables Conference, such as the arrest warrants to Louisiana Justices of the Peace and Constables. Moreover, he has been a member of several associations such as the National Sheriff’s Association from 2016 to 2017, the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association from 2002 to 2015, and the Catholic High School Men’s Club from 1998 to 2003 and 2008 to 2010. He was also a part of Our Lady of Mercy School Men’s Club since 2017, and Wex Malone Inn of Court from 2002 to 2003.
Nomination and Appointment
Brandon J. Fremin is a criminal prosecutor who has served the State of Louisiana for years. On February 23, 2018, he was finally sworn into the office as the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana. Prosecutor Fremin was a Presidential nominee, as elected by President Donald Trump on November 1, 2017. His nomination was ordered to be reported favorably by the Committee on the Judiciary on February 8, 2018. Seven days later, his nomination was confirmed by the Senate by Voice Vote on February 15, 2018.
