Byung J. Pak
Byung J. Pak is the 25th U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia for the U.S. Department of Justice. He is the State of Illinois’s registered Certified Public Accountant.
Mr. Pak’s nomination was sent to the Senate by the U.S. President, Donald Trump in July 2017. The United States Senate confirmed Mr. Pak’s nomination through a voice vote, on September 28, 2017. He swore as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the Northern District of Georgia on October 10, 2017. The Post was served by John A. Horn earlier.
As the U.S. Attorney, Byung Jin “BJay,” Pak has been serving his four-year term for the district that stretches out from the border of Alabama in the west to the two Carolinas in the east. He has also been serving as the principal litigator for the Northern District of Georgia with the main office in Atlanta.
Byung J. Pak has been looking for federal felonies like terrorism, public corruption, narcotics, and fraud in the district. He is the chief federal law enforcement officer and defends the civil cases and the tax affairs of the Government. He has unstaffed offices in Rome, Gainesville, and Newnan.

Law Career
Byung J. Pak clerked for United States District Court’s Richard Mills, after completing his graduation. As a part of which he worked at the Central District of Illinois. He has been in private practice for quite a long time, focusing mainly on complex civil court cases and white-collar inquiries and prosecutions.
Earlier, from the year 2002 to 2008, he was associated with the USAO’s Criminal Division as Assistant U.S. Attorney. He was the first Korean American in the state’s legislation. He carried out the prosecution of those responsible for the theft of Coca-Cola’s trade confidences and traded them to Pepsi. He has also served as the Secretary of the Code Revision Committee.
He represented the 102nd District from the year 2011 to 2013. He was also the State Representative at Georgia General Assembly from the 108th District, from 2013 to 2017. In January 2017, he took voluntary retirement from his Post after serving for three terms. He was the Vice-Chairperson of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.
During his legal career, he has served the Post of Deputy Majority Whip. He was Chairperson of the Subcommittee on Crimes Against Person, Property, and Public Administration.
Byung Pak has been a member of the Elder Law Journal. Byung J. Pak was the Illinois Bar Journal’s notes editor for the recent decisions segment.
Academic Background
Byung J. Pak joined the Stetson University, DeLand, FL, for his undergraduate degree. He completed his accounting degree and was a Florida Academic Scholar. He was associated with the Omicron Delta Kappa and the Interfraternity Council there. Attorney Pak earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law. He was a Harno Scholar.
Awards
Byung J. Pak was honored with summa cum laude and Order of the Coif, from the University of Illinois College of Law. The University also gave him the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year title.
