Charles E. Peeler

Charles E. Peeler State's Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia

Charles E. Peeler is the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia for the U.S. Department of Justice. He is an American attorney with various trial practice records of cases like civil rights disputes, criminal cases, intellectual property issues, and business matters. He has appeared as a prosecutor in the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, Georgia, and 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The U.S. President, Donald Trump, made Mr. Peeler’s nomination. He nominated him on August 3, 2017. The United States Senate confirmed Mr. Peeler’s nomination through a voice vote, on November 9, 2017. He swore as the chief federal law enforcement officer on November 22, 2017. He was guided for the oath by the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court, Clay D. Land.

As the United States Attorney, Charles Peeler will be serving his four-year term for the district that comprises Albany, Columbus, and Valdosta. He will be serving as the principal litigator for the 70 counties in the Middle District of Georgia. He will be looking for federal felonies like terrorism, narcotics, public corruption, and fraud in the district. He will be the chief federal law enforcement officer and will defend the civil matters and the tax affairs of the Government.

 

Law Career

Before Attorney Peeler started his work in the USAO, he was a co-founder of a litigation boutique firm, Flynn Peeler & Phillips. It was established in the year 2005. Before this, he worked as an attorney at King & Spalding in Atlanta. At this post, he handled the prosecution of several complex civil litigations and federal criminal cases. Mr. Peeler serves on the Servicemembers and Veterans Rights Subcommittee.

Charles Peeler is also part of the Cybercrime and Intellectual Property Subcommittee of the Attorney General and the Anti-Gang Network. He is the chairperson of the Department of Justice Investment Review Board.

Charles E. Peeler was appointed on the State Judicial Nominating Commission by Governor Sonny Perdue and Governor Nathan Deal of Georgia. In the Middle District of Georgia, U.S. attorney Peeler served at the Local Rules Advisory Committee, after being appointed by the District Court Judges. In 2016, he was also selected by them to be a part of the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference’s Planning Committee.

 

 

Academic Background

Charles E. Peeler joined the University of Georgia for his undergraduate degree. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from there in the year 1995. Mr. Peeler earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law in the year 1999.
