David Clay Fowlkes - Arkansas State's Attorney

David Clay Fowlkes is the Acting Attorney for the United States Department of Justice for the Western District of Arkansas. The United States President nominates a United States Attorney. The permanent appointment for the U.S. attorney post is made after the confirmation by the U.S. Senate through voice vote. The Attorney is appointed to serve a term of four years. Fowlkes is currently the acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas and will continue to serve until the replacement Attorney is appointed, which in the current scenario has no specific timeline.

DAK Kees of Bentonville preceded him. Kees stepped down from the post on January 17, 2020, to move further with his job offer at Tyson Foods Inc.

David Clay Fowlkes, who was born in Harrison, Arkansas, will be handling the Western District of Arkansas, which comprises 34 counties out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. It includes Garland County and covers area from the Missouri border to the Louisiana state line.

 

Law Career

David Clay Fowlkes was also the Assistant United States Attorney. He has driven the Attorney Office as the first AUSA since December 2007. As a part of which he oversaw the Criminal and Civil Departments.

David Fowlkes was a Criminal chief in the U.S. Attorney Office as well as a senior litigation counsel. He was also the coordinator of USAO’s Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force, where he prosecuted several criminal cases.

Before becoming a part of the USAO, David Clay Fowlkes, from September 2003 to December 2007, served as the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Benton County, Arkansas.

 

Academic Background

David Clay Fowlkes completed his graduation from Arkansas State University. He completed his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas School of Law.

 

Awards

As an acknowledgement for his remarkable involvement in the United States vs. Bernie Hoffman (aka Tony Alamo) jury trial; David Fowlkes was bestowed with the award for the Executive Office of the United States Attorney Director’s in the year 2011 for the Outstanding Litigation Team.

In the year 2014, David Clay Fowlkes was again honored with the same award to acclaim his Outstanding Performance as an AUSA in the Criminal Division. His efforts under USAO’s unit, Organized Crime, and Drug Enforcement Task Force, was acknowledged through this award for the exceptional cases “Operation Great Scott” and “Operation Pantera Negra.”
