Drew H. Wrigley United State's Attorney for the district of North Dakota

Drew H. Wrigley, is holding the office of United States Attorney of North Dakota, for the second time in his successful career. To say he had a diverse career path would be an understatement. Wrigley has experience as a lawyer, a Vice President, a Lieutenant Governor, and an attorney.  His drive and passion for making a change, and bringing comfort to every citizen, guided him to all the leading positions in his career.

Educational Background

A former board member of North Dakota State Investment Board, Wrigley received his diploma from Fargo South High School. He then attended the University of North Dakota for his bachelor’s in economics and philosophy. He graduated with honors in 1988. During college, Wrigley was also an active member of Phi Delta Theta.

Two years later, Wrigley joined the American University, Washington College of Law and received his Juris Doctor. Wrigley continued his active student life in law school and became part of the student government and several mentoring programs.

Professional Career

Wrigley interned for U.S. Senator Bob Dole during law school. He then did a yearlong judicial clerkship in Delaware. Soon after that, Wrigley became an Assistant District Attorney in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. He served in the office for five years before embarking on his political career as Deputy Chief of Staff.

His time in the North Dakota Office of the Governor was cut short a year later. In 2001, President George W. Bush elected Wrigley to be the U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota. Wrigley left his position as the Deputy Chief of Staff and took his oath. He held the office for nine years, before once again heading towards his political career as a Lieutenant Governor of the State of North Dakota.

A couple of years later, Wrigley was once again presidentially selected for the position of U.S. Attorney. He took his oath on April 17, 2019, and resumed office.

Career Highlights

During his first time as U.S. Attorney, Wrigley came face to face with the biggest, most high-profile case of his career. Wrigley played a crucial role in the successful closing of Dru Sjodin’s case. He prosecuted Alfonso Rodriguez, a repeat sex offender and the kidnapper, rapist, and murderer of Sjodin. Not only did Wrigley lead and counseled the trial team, but he was also the one who stood before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and argued the case. Wrigley’s speech resulted in the conviction and death sentence of Rodriguez.

Wrigley was highly praised for his work and received the 2007 National Award of Excellence by FBI Agents Association. Wrigley was also behind the trail of the very prominent case of North Dakota’s first federal Internet lure.

Conclusion

Despite his years away from the Judicial System, Wrigley reclaimed the position in 2019, with the same commitment and drive. Just like his first time, Wrigley continues to focus on violent crimes, illegal immigration, financial frauds, drug trafficking, and crimes committed against children via the internet. If anyone can bring the biggest criminals of North Dakota to trial, it would be Wrigley.
