New interim Chief Federal Law Enforcement Official for the District of Arizona has been named. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn B. McCormick is the second interim Top Federal Prosecutor to be appointed following the departure of former U.S. Attorney Michael Bailey, who has stepped down at the request of President-elect Joe Biden in February of 2021. Subsequent to his resignation, Anthony Martin was named as the temporary replacement, wherein he began serving as the Office’s Acting U.S. Attorney on March 1, 2021. Upon the resignation of former U.S. Attorney Anthony Martin, Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn B. McCormick was promoted into being the First Assistant U.S. Attorney. Pursuant to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn McCormick shall lead the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona as its Acting U.S. Attorney upon the departure of Acting U.S. Attorney Martin. His term shall begin on April 24, 2021. It shall last for a maximum period of 300 days, or until a permanent U.S. Attorney that has been nominated and confirmed by President-elect Joe Biden and the Senate has taken Office.

 

Appointment

The Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona welcomes the newly appointed interim Chief Federal Law Enforcement Official Glenn B. McCormick, who will temporarily step in to fill the vacancy in the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The outgoing interim Top Federal Prosecutor Anthony Martin is stepping down from the office’s highest position, despite being appointed into position as interim U.S. Attorney only on March 1, 2021. Top Federal Prosecutor Martin, who has served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona since March 1, 2021, handed his resignation letter. Pursuant to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn McCormick will begin performing duties as Acting United States Attorney for the District of Arizona from April 24, 2021, onward. Glenn B. McCormick shall lead the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona as its Top Federal Prosecutor for a maximum period of 300 days, or until such time that President-elect Joe Biden and the Senate nominates and confirms a new Chief Federal Law Enforcement Official for the district, respectively.

 

Educational Background and Bar and Court Admissions

Acting U.S. Attorney Glenn McCormick holds a Bachelor of Science in Business/Public Administration degree, graduating from the University of Arizona in 1985. He subsequently attended the Northwestern School of Law and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1990. From then on, U.S. Attorney McCormick has had the chance to be admitted to different bar associations and federal courts. He is licensed to practice law in Arizona after being admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 1990. Acting U.S. Attorney McCormick also has admission to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona since 1998 and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit since 1999.

 

Legal Career – Office of the Maricopa County Attorney

Launching his legal career in 1990, U.S. Attorney Glenn McCormick was a former lawyer at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. He worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney and then as a Deputy District Attorney, serving in the Office for about eight years, from 1990 to 1998.

Top Federal Prosecutor Glenn McCormick first joined the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 1998. He has been performing duties in the Office for over 20 years, serving in a number of supervisory and management roles since 2001. Acting U.S. Attorney McCormick has held the position of Section Chief and was eventually appointed as the Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Phoenix Office of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona. In 2019, Acting U.S. Attorney McCormick began serving as the second-in-command in the Office, working as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney to former U.S. Attorney Michael Bailey and overseeing all of the daily operations in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona. Interim Chief Federal Law Enforcement Official Glenn McCormick was also previously the Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

 

Office Jurisdiction

Acting United States Attorney Glenn B. McCormick leads the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona in prosecuting federal crimes in the district, including crimes related to child exploitation, drugs, firearms, fraud, healthcare fraud, narcotics, public corruption, and terrorism. On top of that, he leads the Office in representing the United States in affirmative and defensive civil cases. With a staff of approximately 340 employees comprising 180 talented Assistant U.S. Attorneys and 160 support personnel, the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona is dedicated to bringing justice and building efforts to enhance public safety. Despite the difficulties due to its geography and resource demands, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona remains committed to its objective and purpose. The two large offices in the City of Phoenix and Tucson and two small offices in the City of Flagstaff and Yuma handle one of the most robust Indian Country dockets in the United States. Furthermore, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona serves as the executive prosecutor for nearly all of the 22 federally recognized tribes whose reservations fall in whole or in part in Arizona.
