Grant C. Jaquith

Grant C. Jaquith State's Attorney for the Northern District of New York

Grant Colton Jaquith, leading federal prosecutor of the Northern District of New York, was officially appointed to be the United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York by United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions on January 5, 2018, after being interim chief federal prosecutor since July 1, 2017. This was possible in the absence of a nomination by President Donald Trump, upon Attorney Jaquith’s term expiration.

Education and Bar Admission

A Cum Laude graduate of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting in 1979, Grant C.Jaquith entered the Presbyterian College by signing a contract with the United States of America, accepting an ROTC Scholarship. He was able to push through with law school after being granted an education delay, getting into Fredric G. Levin College of Law of the University of Florida, and subsequently receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1982. Moreover, Grant Jaquith is an active member of the Florida Bar.

Service to the U.S. Army and Military Awards

Before joining the United States Army Judge Advocate General Corps as a Judge Advocate in 1982, Grant Colton Jaquith first joined a summer judicial clerkship. He then worked at the public defender’s office. As a part of his active duty in the U.S. Army, Attorney Jaquith provided legal assistance, including working on administrative law, civil claims, and labor law, among others. After six years of active duty, Grant C. Jaquith joined Bond Schoeneck & King – a large law firm in Syracuse. Grant was a part of the Litigation Department from 1988 to 1999. In the next years, Grant Jaquith remained serving at the U.S. Army Reserves and became Colonel in 2004. From 2001 to 2010, Grant C. Jaquith provided continuous service to the U.S. Army Reserves as an Army Circuit Judge, with special court admissions presiding over court-martial in the United States, Alaska, Germany, and Korea. Grant C. Jaquith momentarily returned to active duty in 2006, working as a Trial Judge at the Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina.

With 32 years of active and reserve military duty to the United States Army, Grant C. Jaquith has worked on numerous legal matters, including providing general legal assistance, being legal counsel in operational, disciplinary, and administrative work, prosecuting criminal litigation matters, and addressing civil claims. Grant C. Jaquith has received several military awards, including the Legion of Merit.

Service to the United States Attorney’s Office

U.S. Attorney Jaquith’s service at the United States Attorney’s Office began in 1998 when he became Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York. He was Chief of the Albany Office and Narcotics Chief from 1998 to 2006 and Criminal Chief from 2006 to 2010. Grant Jaquith became First Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2010 to 2017, before being appointed as interim United States Attorney in July of 2017. Throughout his career in the office, Grant Jaquith has worked on a broad range of legal matters, including prosecuting complex cases, other federal crimes focusing on health issues, and medical concerns. 

Some of His Important Litigated Matters, and Civilian Professional Awards

In 2018, Grant Jaquith worked on the prosecution of a research coordinator at a V.A. Medical Center. The Chief of Oncology leading the treatments was the husband of the said office manager, which resulted in them being sentenced to pay fines for the misdemeanor. Grant C. Jaquith has been awarded for his exemplary service at the United States Attorney’s Office, including the Department of Justice Director’s Award for Executive Achievement, which he received in 2016.

Nomination to being Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims

Grant Jaquith is looking forward to being a Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. President Donald Trump nominated him on August 28, 2019, and his nomination was reported favorably by the Committee on Veterans Affairs on January 29, 2020. As the Vice-Chairman of the Service Members and Veterans Rights Subcommittee of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, Grant C. Jaquith guarantees reverence for the sacrifice and continuous service of veterans that is his strong point in becoming Judge for the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

Grant supervises a staff composing 48 attorneys through four branch offices – Syracuse, Albany, Binghamton, and Plattsburgh. Additionally, the office manages civil cases involving the United States and recovers debts owed to the United States.
