Jason R. Dunn State's Attorney for the District of Colorado

Jason R. Dunn is the U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado for the U.S. Department of Justice. Dunn is an American lawyer.

Dunn’s nomination was declared by the U.S. President, Donald Trump on June 20, 2018. It was sent to the U.S. Senate on June 25, 2018. The committee unanimously confirmed Dunn’s nomination by voice vote on October 11, 2018. He took the oath as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the district on October 26, 2018.

Jason R. Dunn, at the post of Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer, will be handling various federal felonies, within the District of Colorado, as well as the civil actions and the tax affairs of the government. He will be managing the USAO of Colorado, which has over 190 staff. John F. Walsh earlier held the position.

Jason R. Dunn is a member of the Department of Justice’s Procurement Collusion Strike Force. The committee deals with keeping a check on the government procurement process for any price-fixing, fraud, and bid-rigging abuse.

He is also a part of the Attorney General’s Advisory Subcommittee for Cybercrime and Intellectual Property, Terrorism and National Security, Marijuana, and Native American Issues.

 

Law Career

Jason R. Dunn, after completing his law school clerked for a year for Nathan B. Coats of the Colorado Supreme Court, who is now a Chief Justice. He was then involved in practice in the area of Water Law for a couple of years.

Dunn left his private practice to work under John Suthers, who had been U.S. attorney general in Colorado at that time. Jason R. Dunn helped Suthers to manage his office of around 250 lawyers, as his Deputy Attorney General. He worked with him for three years, focused mainly on improvising legal policy in national and state litigation and handling critical issues of Colorado.

Jason R. Dunn joined the law firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP, in the year 2007. He was an attorney in their Denver office for around 11 years. Dunn was a shareholder there, and he specialized in regulatory and consumer law and internal investigations. Jason R. Dunn was the chairperson of the firm’s Political and Regulatory Law Practice Group. He also chaired its State Attorneys General Practice Group.

 

Private Practice

Jason R. Dunn has also been into private practice focusing on public policy, regulatory/administrative law, election law, land use, and appellate advocacy. He has appeared before many local, state courts, Colorado Supreme Court and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeal. Jason R. Dunn, in his career, also worked for several non-profit boards. He has served the Colorado Meth Project, National Sports Center for the Disabled, the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, and the Alliance for Choice in Education.

 

Academic Background

Jason R. Dunn joined the University of Colorado, from where he completed his undergraduate degree Bachelor of Science – Finance. He also earned his Master of Public Administration and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Colorado Boulder.
