Though Atty. Milhiser was also nominated by President Trump, he was appointed into the office early by the Central District of Illinois’ federal judiciary department. He took the office as the district’s U.S. Attorney on the 31st of October, 2018. Atty. Milhiser was finally confirmed on the 3rd of January the following year by the Senate through voice vote.

As John C. Milhiser officially began his career as the states’ incumbent United States Attorney, he became the top federal law enforcement officer in the State. Part of his responsibilities includes overseeing all of the citizens under the Central District of Illinois and its 46 counties.

U.S. Attorney Milhiser also had the duty of prosecuting federal crimes and serving as the legal counsel for the government. Primarily, his responsibilities lie in defending the legal interests of the country as well as protecting the public funds. He works with his team of legal and non-legal staff to ensure security and order within his territory.

Professional Legal Work Experience

John C. Milhiser began his legal career years before he was appointed a U.S. Attorney. In 1997, he worked at Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s office in various divisions, namely civil, juvenile and felony. After several years in the position, in 2003, he decided to practice privately.

Then, in 2008, he returned to his public service beginnings as the First Assistant State’s Attorney. 2 years after that, in 2010, he was elected officially as Sangamon’s State Attorney. As a State Attorney, his duty was in the interest of the State. In this position, he was elected twice, first in 2012, and then in 2016.
