Josh Minkler states attorney southern district of Indiana

Josh Minkler is the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana for the United States Department of Justice. He is a Muncie, Indiana based lawyer.

The United States president, Donald Trump, nominated Joshua Minkler for the post of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana in July 2017. Joshua J. Minkler swore in as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the Southern District of Indiana on October 10, 2017. The post was earlier served by Joe Hogsett.

 

Primary Duties

As the U.S. Attorney, Mr. Minkler is serving his four-year term for the district that has around 60 counties, including Marion County. He serves as the principal litigator for the Southern District of Indiana, which has four divisions, Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Evansville, and New Albany.

The office based in Indianapolis and staffed office in Evansville looks after the prosecution of federal felonies like terrorism, robberies, public corruption, homicides, narcotics, cybercrime, and fraud in the district. Mr. Minkler is the chief federal law enforcement officer and defends civil cases and the tax affairs of the Government. The district has an unstaffed office in New Albany and Terre Haute.

 

Law Career and Private Practice

Prior to joining United States Attorney office, he was an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in an office based in Kent County, Michigan. Minkler, during his service of five years, prosecuted numerous violent crimes.

 

Association with United States Attorney Office

Mr. Minkler was appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. He has been serving the post at different roles for 21 years, since 1994. As an Assistant United States Attorney, he handled the prosecution of several narcotics, violent crime, and public corruption cases.

During this tenure, he held the position the First Assistant United States Attorney till the year 2014, in the Criminal Division. He served as the first assistant United States attorney under-then Attorney Joe Hogsett. He was the Chief of the Drug and Violent Crimes Unit.

He, along with his staff, contributed to anti-crime activities like a high-five rally at Tindley Preparatory Academy, to support kids. He also went to Daniel Webster Elementary School to mentor young girls.

Before being confirmed for the post, Mr. Minkler was serving as interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. He was on this post from June 2015 to September 2017 under President Barack Obama’s administration. He was appointed by the federal court to handle the office, in the absence of a presidential appointment.

 

Educational Background

Josh Minkler joined Wabash College for his undergraduate degree. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in the year 1985. Mr. Minkler earned his Juris Doctor from the Indiana University Mauer School of Law in the year 1988.
