Larry Keefe states attorney for the northern district of Florida

Lawrence Keefe is the 41st U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida for the U.S. Department of Justice. Lawrence A. “Larry” Keefe is an American lawyer with expertise in civil litigation in the business and commercial land.

Keefe’s nomination was sent to the Senate by the U.S. President, Donald Trump on August 27, 2018. The United States Senate confirmed Keefe’s nomination through a voice vote, on January 2, 2019. He swore as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the Northern District of Florida on January 9, 2019.

As the U.S. Attorney of the district, Lawrence Keefe will be serving his four-year term. He will be serving as the principal litigator for the 23 counties in the Northern District of Florida, which is headquartered in Tallahassee. Lawrence Keefe will be chief federal law enforcement officer and will defend the civil actions and the tax affairs of the Government. The district extends from Escambia in the west to Alachua in the east. The other offices are located in Panama City, Pensacola, and Gainesville. He replaced the interim U.S. Attorney Christopher P. Canova.

 

Law Career

After graduation, Lawrence Keefe started his legal career as a complex business and construction litigator in Tampa. He also worked with product liability cases. Keefe returned to his home in Northwest Florida in the year 1991. Lawrence Keefe operated there as a civil litigator and investigated criminal cases for federal and state courts both. Before serving the United States Attorney Office, Mr. Keefe has also worked at the appellate level. Lawrence Keefe has worked as a member of the Florida Bar for more than 30 years.

He joined the Florida-based law firm Keefe, Anchors & Gordon as a partner. He worked there since January 2009. Lawrence Keefe has also been a part of the law firm, Fort Walton Beach.

Keefe was the president of Catholic Charities, Northwest Florida. He is also the chairperson of the Military Academy Selection Board for the First Congressional District of Florida.

 

Academic Background

Lawrence Keefe graduated from Choctawhatchee High School and then joined the University of Florida for his undergraduate degree. He completed his bachelor’s degree with honors from there in the year 1983. He earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1986 from the Fredric G. Levin College of Law.

 

Awards

Lawrence Keefe received the honor of being named as Florida “Super Lawyer.” He got this recognition for 10 times, and is a six-time receiver of the “Florida Legal Elite” title.
