Educational Background
Michael B. Stuart comes from a humble background, and his forefathers worked as coal miners. After his birth in Philippi, his family moved to Morgantown in West Virginia to improve their lifestyle. He completed most of his education in the country seat of Monongalia County.
The alma mater of Morgantown High School got his B.A. degree from West Virginia University. There, he studied Accounting and Politics. It was after entering the practical life that he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, for obtaining the Juris Doctor or J.D. degree. The university awarded the degree in Finance and Business in the year 2000.
Political Association
Belonging to a blue-collar family, Michael Stuart has always been a hard worker. Having experienced financial issues from a young age, he made it his goal to do something for the betterment of society. It was due to this dream that he made a career switch and entered the judicial world.
Michael B. Stuart led the West Virginia Republican Party from 2010-12 as chairman. While his main focus was on his profession, he continued to support the political party. He was the chairman of the current U.S. President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign of 2016 in West Virginia. Moreover, presiding over the Presidential Debate Commission of West Virginia in 2014 is another feather in Stuart’s cap.

Michael Bryan Stuart began his professional journey as a Financial Statements Accountant at PwC. He worked as an attorney at Spilman Thomas & Battle firm and K&L Gates before getting a significant breakthrough at Steptoe & Johnson. The international law firm hired him as a senior lawyer in 2005.
During his tenure at the legal firm, his focus was on tax practices and corporate services. Thanks to his outstanding leadership skills, he effectively managed big teams of professionals. Furthermore, Michael B. Stuart was known for guiding clients about a myriad of issues such as business transactions, energy sector, corporate finance, acquisition and merger, business financing options, and other corporate matters.
Michael B. Stuart handled many cases while working at Steptoe & Johnson firm that brought him to the limelight. Owing to the vast experience and hardworking nature, Stuart became the leading candidate for the United States Attorney in West Virginia’s Southern District. The announcement for the nomination was made on September 8, 2017. Two months later, on December 20, it wasn’t a surprise when the President declared him the new attorney for the district.
The current attorney received the charge of the office from Booth Goodwin when he took the oath on January 9, 2018. Before taking charge, he had promised to address the opioid epidemic, which is a leading concern for the country. So far, he has been fulfilling his promise by prioritizing drug abuse cases in the district.
