Nicola T. Hanna

Nicola T. Hanna is the United States Attorney for the Central District of California for the U.S. Department of Justice. Nicola Taisir Hanna is an American lawyer.

Hanna’s nomination was declared by the U.S. Senate committee, through a voice vote on April 19, 2018. The committee confirmed Hanna’s nomination by voice vote on April 26, 2018.

Nicola T. Hanna, at the post of Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer, handles various federal felonies, within the Central District of California. The USAO is also accountable for managing the United States in civil actions and the tax affairs of the government. It is the largest United States Attorney’s Office outside of Washington, DC., which looks after around 19 million people, which is nearly half the state’s inhabitants. The Central District of California office comprises about 260 attorneys and over 250 staff members. The counties included are San Luis Obispo, Orange, Riverside, Ventura, and Santa Barbara.

The position was earlier, held by Eileen M. Decker. He served the USAO from 2015 to 2017.

Nicola T. Hanna has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice for eight years. He was Assistant United States Attorney from 1990-1998. From the year 1990 to 1994, he served as the Assistant U.S. Attorney, Central District of California, and between 1994 to 1998. He was appointed as the Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of California in San Diego.

As the Assistant U.S. Attorney of Central District of California, Nicola Hanna looked after the prosecution of various vehement and economic crimes. His chief involvement was in the concerns related to drug traffickers and money laundering.

Nicola Hanna gained the role of Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, during his tenure of Assistant U.S. Attorney in Southern District of California. He handled the prosecution of criminal tax violations and international chemical diversion along with trials related to international drug traffickers and money laundering organizations.

Hanna handled trials of several cases in front of the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

Nicola T. Hanna, in his career, held the position of a Partner at the law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP. He worked in their Irvine office from the year 1998 to January 2018. He was known for his contribution to white-collar crime affairs, investigation, complex commercial litigations, and compliance.

In 2009 he was also welcomed as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers as a veteran trial lawyer.

Academic Background

In the year 1979, Nicola T. Hanna joined the University of California, San Diego, for his Bachelor of Arts. He graduated in the year 1984. He got enrolled at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., in 1984. Nicola earned his Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1987. Hanna was also the Associate Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal.
