R. Andrew Murray
U.S. Attorney Murray committed his entire life to serving his Country. His love for his countrymen led him to protect people from harm, both physically and through his knowledge of the law. He continues to protect the rights of the citizens and prosecute those who severed them.
Murray made a comeback in public service in 2011 when he was elected and then re-elected as the District Attorney in Mecklenburg County. He held office for six years before being nominated by President Donald Trump in 2017. He was confirmed by the Senate two months later.
Murray took his oath as the United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina on November 27, 2017.

Professional Career
Murray pursued his career in the Coast Guard as well as Coast Guard Reserve and retired as a Captain after 35 years of service. After his active duty, Murray started his law career as an Assistant District Attorney in Mecklenburg County. After public prosecutions, he moved on to practicing law as a criminal defense attorney in a private law firm in North Carolina. He was later promoted to the position of a managing partner in the same firm.

U.S. Attorney Murray is the top federal law enforcement officer in the Western District of North Carolina. He oversees the office responsible for prosecuting criminal and civil cases in 32 counties. This office protects the civil rights of 2.9 million people and is one of the busiest U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the Country. Murray, with his excellent leadership skills, took this challenging job with ease. Murray and his staff of 80, prosecuted many crimes committed in 32 counties, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian reservation.
Murray’s time as the District Attorney somewhat prepared him for this job. He had already proved himself when he integrated innovative ideas and strategies in the system. The changes he made during his time as a District Attorney, ensured timely and fair prosecutions of state cases. He also learned to build strong connections to carry out these cases smoothly.

Andrew Murray’s accomplishments came in the form of his qualities as a leader. It is high praise indeed to lead the state and national prosecutorial communities, and to preside over the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys’.
Educational Background
Murray joined the United States Coast Guard right out of high school. After his active duty, he enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He graduated with his bachelor’s in Political Science in 1989. Murray continued his education and received his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1992.
