Richard W. Moore states attorney for the southern district of Alabama

Richard W. Moore is the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, U.S. Department of Justice. He started serving his tenure from the year 2017. After being nominated for the post by the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, he became the first one to attain the position. Richard Wayne Moore was nominated in June 2017. He was amongst the first of the attorneys to be affirmed by the U.S. Senate through a voice vote. Moore was confirmed on September 14, 2017. Richard W. Moore was sworn for the post of the U.S. attorney by the Chief U.S. District Court Judge Kristi K. DuBose on September 22, 2017. He was preceded by Kenyen R. Brown, who was the Attorney of Southern District of Alabama from the year 2009 to 2017.

Richard Wayne Moore was born on December 5, 1952, in Bartow, Florida. Moore is an American Lawyer. At this post, he will be serving as the Federal law enforcement officer for the Southern District of Alabama. Court for the Federal judicial district is held at Mobile and Selma. The district includes major counties: Baldwin, Monroe, Washington, Mobile, Dallas, and Perry.

 

Law Career

During the earlier phase of his law career, Richard W. Moore has been in private practice in Mobile, Alabama, Cleveland, and Ohio.

Moore has also served as the chairman of the investigations committee, Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency from May 2009 to March 2011.

Erstwhile, Richard W. Moore has also served as the Inspector General for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). He served this role from May 9, 2003, to September 2017. He was nominated for this role by George W. Bush. He got elected after the confirmation by the United States Senate.

Richard Moore has earlier worked as the Assistant U.S. Attorney, Southern District of Alabama, for more than 17 years. He mentioned this specifically during his oath ceremony as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Richard W. Moore served his tenure from the year 1985 to 2003. During this time, he primarily prosecuted criminal cases concerning white-collar criminalities, official fraud, and wide-ranging Federal crimes. At this time, Richard W. Moore worked as the chief of the criminal division too. He was appointed as senior litigation counsel and was the coordinator of the Anti-Terrorism Task Force.

In November 2017, Richard Moore was named as the Chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. AGAC synchronizes guidance from the 93 U.S. Attorney Offices in the U.S. and presents the Attorney General the guidance to serve the best interest of the Department of Justice in matters of legislation and policies.

 

Academic Background

Richard Moore attended his undergraduate course at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. He completed his Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from there in the year 1974. His Juris Doctor degree is obtained from the Cumberland School of Law, Birmingham, Alabama, in the year 1977. From the year 1997-1998, he was an Atlantic Fellow in Public Policy at the University of Oxford in England. He also researched on the prosecution of complex international fraud cases and conducted an independent study on the same.

 

Awards

In the year 2015, Richard Moore was awarded from his University, the Cumberland School of Law’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.
