The 48th United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Robert K. Hur, was nominated by President Donald Trump for the position on November 1, 2017. With a little delay over questions related to the special counsel’s Russia probe as investigated by the Department of Justice, Attorney Hur’s nomination was reported favorably by the Committee on Judiciary on March 22, 2018. It was confirmed by the Senate by Voice Vote later on the same day. United States Chief District Judge James K. Bredar swore in Robert K. Hur into the office on April 9, 2018.

Educational Background
Robert K. Hur received his undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts in English and American Literature from Harvard College, graduating magna cum laude and with the highest honors in 1995. He also studied Philosophy at the University of Cambridge from 1995 to 1996. Subsequently, He earned his Juris Doctor at the Stanford University Law School in 2001, where he was the Executive Director of the Stanford Law Review.
Legal Career
The legal career of Robert Hur began at The Boston Consulting Group, where he served as an Associate from 1996 to 1998. Moving to Washington, D.C., in 2000, he practiced law at the Kirkland & Ellis LLP as a Summer Associate. After receiving his J.D., Robert K. Hur worked as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Judge Alex Kozinski at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2001 to 2002. Later on, he worked as a Law Clerk under Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist at the United States Supreme Court from 2002 to 2003.
In 2003, Robert Hur served at the United States Department of Justice as a Special Assistant and, eventually, as a Counsel to the Criminal Division. His work involved prosecuting fraud, mainly corporate fraud, appellate matters, and counterterrorism. Two years later, Mr. Hur moved to a major law firm, King & Spalding, and became an associate from 2005 to 2007. Here, he represented entities, and prosecuted matters on criminal, and regulatory enforcement actions. His work involved civil litigation, federal agencies, and the Securities Exchange Commission.
A resident of Silver Spring, U.S. Attorney Hur became an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice in Greenbelt, Maryland. He served at the office for about six years, from 2007 to 2014, working on illegal firearm possession, drug trafficking, violence, public corruption, fraud, computer network intrusions, tax offenses, intellectual property theft, and other white-collar offenses. In 2014, Robert K. Hur came back to work at the major law firm, King & Spalding, and soon became a Partner at the Special Matters and Government Investigations for three years.
Robert Hur’s proudest moment of “serving my [his] country as a member of the Department of Justice” has, once again, been fulfilled as he served at the U.S. Department of Justice as a Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General from 2017 to 2018, under the Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein of the Department’s Senior Leadership Team.
Honors and Awards, and Bar and Court Admissions
With his dedication to Maryland, Robert K. Hur received recognition and named Influential Marylander. In 2011, he received the Distinguished Service Award, U.S. Attorney General. Robert Hur was also a Barrister of the Edward Bennet Williams Inn of Court, and a former member of the Board of Directors, and Nominations Committee of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the District of Columbia from 2014 to 2017, and from 2015 to 2017, respectively. Robert Hur was also admitted to several Bar Associations, including the California Bar in 2004, District of Columbia Bar in 2006, and Maryland Bar in 2011.
Office Jurisdiction
With a focus on combating violence, drug trafficking, and corruption, Atty Hur succeeded in becoming the District of Maryland’s United States Attorney. Currently, Robert Hur oversees a staff of approximately 160 personnel, with 88 attorneys and 72 support personnel. The office is also responsible for investigating and prosecuting litigation matters of all criminal and civil cases, defending the United States, and also recovering debts owed to the state.
