Robert Shelden Brewer Jr. is the United States Attorney for the United States District Court, Southern District of California. He is a government official and a veteran litigator. He had a prosecution and litigation experience of around ten years.
Brewer looks after one of the busiest judicial districts of the United States, which includes San Diego and Imperial Counties. Robert S. Brewer Jr. will be supervising the prosecution and defense of the interests of the Southern District of California. The USAO is also liable to handle the United States in civil actions, and the tax affairs of the government.

Appointment
Robert Shelden Brewer Jr. was the appointee of President of United States, Donald J. Trump. After his nomination for was received by the U.S. Senate on June 25, 2018, he swore as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the district on January 16, 2019. He was sworn in by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Barry Ted Moskowitz.
Robert Brewer Jr. got a recommendation for his four-year term, from the United States Senators Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein. On January 2, 2019, he got confirmation as the Attorney in the USAO, by the unanimous voice vote of the United States Senate.
Before entering law, Mr. Brewer has been in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger. He served the U.S. Army from the year 1968 to 1972.

Before his career as the U.S. Attorney, Robert Brewer has primarily been into private practice from 1982 to 2018. From the year 1991 to 2009, he worked as a partner in the law firm McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP. In his private practice, Robert Shelden Brewer Jr. worked as a partner at Jones Day, an international law firm from 2009 to 2014. He was in charge of their San Francisco Office from 2012 to 2013. Before serving as the U.S. Attorney, Brewer had worked as a litigation attorney at Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek.
Robert Shelden Brewer Jr. has co-founded the San Diego law firm of Chapin & Brewer in the year 1987. Since the year 1999, Brewer has also worked as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. Brewer is an expert in White Collar Criminal Defense, health care and intellectual property disputes, fraud, and Government Investigations. He was a candidate for District Attorney post in the year 2014.
For the year 1975 to 1977, he has served as the Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County. From the year 1977 to 1982, he was also one of the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California. During his tenure, he has successfully prosecuted several cases of bank robberies, murder for hire, narcotics, and aircraft hijacking. Robert Brewer Jr. has served as the Assistant Chief of the Criminal Division.
Academic Background
Robert S. Brewer joined St. Lawrence University, St. Lawrence County, New York for his undergraduate course. There he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in the year 1968. Brewer went to the University of San Diego School of Law, San Diego, California, to make his Juris Doctor. He received his J.D. in 1975.
Awards
In the year 1981, he received the Attorney General’s Commendation Award.
San Diego County Bar Association awarded Brewer the Daniel T. Broderick Award (for civility and ethics) in the year 2009. Robert Shelden Brewer Jr. received the Distinguished Graduate Award in the year 2016, from the University of San Diego School of Law.
San Diego’s Criminal Defense White-Collar Lawyer
Brewer was named by the “Best Lawyers” as the San Diego’s Criminal Defense White-Collar Lawyer (2011).
Robert Shelden Brewer Jr. has also been awarded the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars for the contribution of his combat service in the Vietnam War. He has received several accolades and medals during his term in the U.S. army.
