Ryan K. Patrick United State's Attorney for the Southern District of Texas

Ryan K. Patrick is the 23rd U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas for the U.S. Department of Justice. Patrick was nominated for the post on November 2, 2017, by the United States President Donald Trump. Ryan K. Patrick took over the position as the U.S. Attorney on January 8, 2018. It was done after unanimous voice vote approval in the U.S. Senate on December 20, 2017. Kenneth Magidson preceded him.

Ryan’s full name is Ryan Kelley Goeb Patrick, and he was born in the year 1979. His father Dan Patrick is the Lieutenant Governor of Texas. Ryan is also an American lawyer and ex-judge who currently holds the role of the nation’s principal litigator.

Law Career

Ryan K. Patrick holds a strong record as a prosecutor and criminal court judge.

From the year 2002 to 2004, Ryan Patrick was the political director for the Harris County Republican Party. Patrick also served his tenure as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County between the years 2006 to 2012. He prosecuted all kinds of criminal cases during his tenure as the Assistant District Attorney.

For three years, he served as a prosecutor and investigator with the Vehicle Crimes Division. After leaving the office, he was allocated to the Major Offenders Division. There he carried out the critical prosecution of narcotics trafficking cases and illegal pill mill operations.

In the year 2012, then Texas Governor, Rick Perry (now U.S. energy secretary), appointed Ryan K. Patrick as a presiding judge at the 177th state district court. Later, in the same year, he was elected for the position where he served his complete four-year term.

After losing the seat in 2016 to the Democratic election wave, he afterwards shifted back to solo practicing. During his private practitioner tenure, he was working as the senior counsel with HooverSlovacek, a Houston law firm. He worked intensively on felony criminal defense work.

U.S. Attorney for Southern Texas

Before serving as the U.S. Attorney, Ryan K. Patrick had no prior experience in federal court. As the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas now, Patrick is focused entirely on violent crime prosecutions, as a part of the nationwide initiative towards subduing such crimes called Project Safe Neighborhoods.

As the chief federal prosecutor, he is responsible for prosecuting and defending a wide variety of welfare cases of one of the significant and largest districts of the United States. It includes 43 counties and the chief cities of Houston, Galveston, Brownsville, McAllen, Laredo, and Corpus Christi. It has nearly 300 local police departments. The district witnessed one of the most significant criminal cases in the nation. Ryan K. Patrick is the chief law enforcement officer for the Southern District of Texas and will be serving four-year terms

Academic Background

Ryan K. Patrick is a Baylor University graduate. He graduated from Texas University in 2001. In 2006, he obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law, Houston.
