Anchorage lawyer, S. Lane Tucker, has been named the new Chief Federal Law Enforcement Official for the District of Alaska. United States District Chief Judge Sharon L. Gleason has announced the appointment of S. Lane Tucker as the Top Federal Prosecutor, after administering now-U.S. Attorney Tucker’s oath of office on April 25, 2022. President Joseph R. Biden tapped Attorney S. Lane Tucker as the next Top Federal Prosecutor for the District of Alaska. Her presidential nomination was made official on January 26, 2022, then confirmed by the United States Senate through Voice Vote on May 17, 2022. As Chief Federal Law Enforcement Official, United States Attorney S. Lane Tucker shall serve in the highest position in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Alaska for four years. Top Federal Prosecutor Tucker replaces Former U.S. Attorney Bryan D. Schroder, who was among the 55 U.S. Attorneys requested to step down upon the appointment of President Joe Biden in 2021. She is taking the lead from Acting U.S. Attorney E. Bryan Wilson, who served on an interim basis following the resignation of former U.S. Attorney Schroder on February 27, 2021.

Educational Background
United States Attorney S. Lane Tucker is an alumna of the Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, receiving her Juris Doctorate in 1987. She attended law school as a William H. Leary Scholar and was honored with the American Jurisprudence Award in Antitrust. Top Federal Prosecutor Tucker took up a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy degree at Mary Baldwin College, graduating with honors in 1983.
Legal Career of Attorney Lane Tucker
U.S. General Services Administration
Upon earning her Juris Doctorate, U.S. Attorney Tucker joined the U.S. General Services Administration as an Assistant General Counsel. From June 1987 through August 1991, U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker was based in Washington, D.C., representing the U.S. General Services Administration in Contract Disputes Act claims before the General Services Board of Contract Appeals. Moreover, she handled bid protests before several government agencies, including the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. District Courts. Top Federal Prosecutor Tucker also provided legal advice and counsel in matters related to federal real property issues.
U.S. Department of Justice
After her four-year service in the U.S. General Services Administration, U.S. Attorney Tucker began working as a Trial Attorney in the United States Department of Justice. She was appointed in the Office’s Commercial Litigation Section under the Civil Division, where Top Federal Prosecutor Tucker carried over her knowledge from her previous line of work. In this capacity, she represented the United States in matters involving Contract Dispute claims and bid protests before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. U.S. Attorney Tucker remained with the United States Department of Justice for over 11 years, serving as a Trial Attorney from August 1991 to August 2002.
U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska
After her service in the United States Department of Justice, Top Federal Prosecutor S. Lane Tucker pursued a different area of practice and became a federal prosecutor. In September 2002, U.S. Attorney Tucker moved from Washington, D.C., to Anchorage, Alaska, to join the Office of the United States Attorney’s Office. She was initially appointed as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Office’s Civil Division until U.S. Attorney Tucker was named the Civil Chief in 2003. During her service in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska, Top Federal Prosecutor S. Lane Tucker also held several other leadership roles, including Health Care Fraud Enforcement Coordinator and the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Coordinator. For approximately three years and nine months, U.S. Attorney Tucker focused on prosecuting an array of civil fraud cases, particularly on cases involving government contract fraud, health care fraud, and qui tam.
Private Practice
Ending her almost two decades of career in government service, Top Federal Prosecutor Tucker shifted to private practice and joined Stoel Rives LLP as a Partner in January 2010. U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker spent the bulk of her legal career in this law firm, representing and providing legal advice to clients in the housing and construction industry and to more than a dozen corporations that serve Native communities within Alaska. Stoel Rives LLP specializes in construction litigation, government contracts, and white-collar defense, in which Top Federal Prosecutor Tucker has had an intensive background. Her work with numerous Alaska Native Corporations allowed her to collaborate with executives and in-house counsels of these corporations, where she aided in the effective and efficient implementation of systems within the businesses.
Between her service in the U.S. Department of Justice and Stoel Rives LLP, U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker briefly pursued a solo legal practice from 2006 to 2008. Later, from 2008 to 2009, U.S. Attorney Tucker became Counsel at Perkins Coie LLP.
Bar Associations and Memberships
Currently, U.S. Attorney Tucker serves as the Alaska Chair for the Public Contracts Section and the Vice Chair of the Small Business and Other Socioeconomics Program Committee of the American Bar Association. Top Federal Prosecutor Tucker also holds the Chair position of the Alaska Bar Public Contracts Law Section, which she founded. Apart from sustaining leadership roles in these professional associations of lawyers, U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker also previously served as President of the Federal Bar Association, as a Lawyer Representative to the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference and a member of the Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers. U.S. Attorney Tucker served as a board member and officer for the Alaska Community Foundation outside the legal community.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has staffed Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau branches. Under the leadership of U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, and support personnel within the office are dedicated to effectively representing the United States in all federal criminal and civil cases under the jurisdiction of the District of Alaska, with a heavy emphasis on white-collar and environmental crimes, along with violent crime, gangs, and drug enforcement. Furthermore, the Office of the U.S. Attorney can be expected to efficiently coordinate all federal, state, and local law enforcement efforts.
