Sayler A. Fleming
Attorney General William P. Barr announced the newly appointed United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri on December 31, 2020. Sayler A. Fleming is now the Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer of the Eastern District of Missouri, taking over the office following the resignation of former U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen on December 30, 2020.

Sayler A. Fleming is a graduate of the Mississippi State University and received her Bachelor of Accountancy degree in 2001. She also went to the Grenoble Ecole de Management – a triple-accredited French business school – and received a Certificate in International Business in 2002. A year later, she entered the Vanderbilt University Law School and subsequently received a Juris Doctorate in 2006.
The legal career of Acting U.S. Attorney Sayler Fleming began with her internship at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri in 2004, where she stayed for less than a year. After graduating from law school, from 2006 to 2007, Acting U.S. Attorney Fleming worked as a Judicial Clerk under the Honorable Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. – the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Missouri from 1992 to 2008. Sayler later joined a private practice and became an Attorney at the Bryan Cave, LLP, which is now known as the Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. In this capacity, U.S. Attorney Fleming gained valuable knowledge and experience in diversified international legal practice, as well as litigations involving cases of class action, commercial litigation matters, and product liability.
After her service at the Bryan Cave, LLP, Acting U.S. Attorney Sayler A. Fleming joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri as an Assistant United States Attorney, where she spent the bulk of her legal career. In this position, she managed to gain extensive legal experience in prosecuting and supervising violent criminal cases. Prior to becoming the interim United States Attorney, Sayler Fleming served as the Office’s Appellate Chief. She was responsible for enforcing civil rights laws, handling high profile cases, or those that involved particularly sensitive or difficult civil rights appeals.

“Having spent the bulk of my legal career as an Assistant United States Attorney, I am deeply humbled and honored to serve the office and federal judicial district in this capacity,” said U.S. Attorney Sayler Fleming. As she was appointed as interim U.S. Attorney, she further says, “I have immense respect for my colleagues, who work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law and fulfill the mission of the Department of Justice. I look forward to continuing this important and necessary work with our federal, state, and local partners.”
As the Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, Sayler A. Fleming now bears the responsibility of serving 49 counties and overseeing its three divisions – the Northern, Eastern, and Southern divisions of the Eastern District of Missouri. In addition, U.S. Attorney Fleming shall manage the prosecution of federal crimes in the district, including prosecuting crimes involving child exploitation, firearms, ppp fraud, narcotics, public corruption, and terrorism, among others. The Office shall also defend the United States in civil cases and collect debts owed to the United States.
