Scott W. Brady United State's Attorney Western District of Pennsylvania

Scott W. Brady is the 58th U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania for the United States Department of Justice.

U.S. Attorney Brady’s nomination was announced by the U.S. President, Donald Trump on September 18, 2017. The United States Senate confirmed Scott Brady’s nomination through a voice vote, on December 14, 2017. He swore as the chief federal law enforcement officer of the Western District of Pennsylvania on December 22, 2017. He was sworn in by Chief U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti in the oath-taking ceremony. The post was served by David J. Hickton earlier.

As the U.S. Attorney, Scott W. Brady is serving his four-year term for the district that includes 25 counties within it. Some of the significant counties under Pittsburgh are Armstrong, Indiana, Washington, and Westmoreland. The Erie region includes Crawford, Warren, and Erie counties. Bedford, Blair, and Cambria are some of the counties under the Johnstown region.

Law Career and Private Practice

Attorney Brady served as a Law Clerk for United States District Court’s honorable judge, Thomas M. Hardiman, after completing his graduation. He worked there from the year 2003 to 2004.

During his private practice in his legal career, his work focused mainly on white-collar crime and internal investigations.

He worked as a Senior Associate at the law firm, Jones Day. He was employed there for two years from 2010 to 2012. He has also worked as an associate at Reed Smith in their Downtown office from the year 2001 to 2003. 

Association with USAO

From the year 2004 to 2010, he served as the Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Western District of Pennsylvania. He was associated with the USAO’s Anti-Terrorism, Violent Crime, and White-Collar Crime sections as the Assistant U.S. Attorney.

He was also the Head of Litigation, Corporate Counsel for Pittsburgh-based Federated Investors from the year 2012 to 2017. In this post, he oversaw several internal investigations and domestic and international litigation.

Other Career Involvements

He was the Field officer at Shelter Now International, Inc. in the year 1994. He worked there for less than a year.

He taught Constitutional Law during his tenure as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of law, from 2016 to 2017.

For seven years, he has served faith-based relief and development organizations overseas, including Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

Educational Background

Scott W. Brady joined Harvard University for his undergraduate degree. He completed his Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) degree in Political Economy and Government in the year 1991. Mr. Brady earned his Juris Doctor from the Pennsylvania State University’s Dickinson School of Law in the year 2001.
